How to Pivot Your Elopement Plans Like a Pro

Whether you’ve thought about it or not, having to pivot your elopement plans can be a bit nerve-wracking for many couples. But in reality, it’s rarely a big issue. Unforeseen weather problems, such as storms, wildfires, rain, or sudden road or trail closures, could require shifting plans. Sometimes, chosen venues don’t live up to their promises, leading to a last-minute change.

I’ve been through these situations with my clients, and despite the initial stress, everything turned out fine and the photos were great. I ensure my clients feel supported by thoroughly explaining their options to make informed decisions. Additionally, it’s a good idea to think about alternative spots ahead of time as you go through the location list. This way, you’ll be well-prepared for any adjustments that might come up. Thanks to thorough planning, making adjustments on the day or night before is never a huge problem, but let’s talk more about how to plan ahead accordingly like a pro.

STRATEGIZING FOR A PLAN B IN CASE YOU NEED TO PIVOT YOUR ELOPEMENT PLANS

Planning for unexpected circumstances and the need to pivot your elopement plans involves a mix of practicality and foresight. Begin by digging deep into local weather patterns. Understand the potential challenges and plan accordingly. Be sure you hire a skilled photographer familiar with the area. This ensures they can handle unexpected situations with ease. Being realistic about potential hiccups and acknowledging they might occur allows for a more flexible mindset on your special day. Right from the start, think ahead and have backup plans in place. Identify and prepare not just Plan B but even a Plan C location. It’s all about being ready for anything that might come your way. This proactive approach ensures that come rain or shine, you’re ready to adapt and still create unforgettable moments on your elopement day.

NAVIGATING THE NOTORIOUS KELP OBSTACLE

For Chris and Katie’s elopement, the beach ceremony had to be shifted to the inn’s lawn due to kelp on the shore and the venue’s refusal to address the issue. Luckily, despite the change in plans, the ceremony photos turned out well against the backdrop of the beautiful ocean.

Andrea and Brad’s elopement took an unexpected turn when the locations listed as “within walking distance” by the Airbnb turned out not to be. Nevertheless, we improvised and held the ceremony just below the Airbnb. The couple’s portraits were captured near the water along the shore, and they turned out stunning.

SNOWY ROADS, WARM HEARTS, AND A PIVOT IN ELOPEMENT PLANS

Melissa and Weston’s elopement took an unexpected turn as snow prolonged road closures, preventing us from using the initially planned locations. However, I truly adore the spot they chose for their ceremony – those views were incredible! It’s hard not to be thrilled with the outcome.

During this elopement, we unexpectedly had more time between the two portrait locations. However, we seized the opportunity and decided to pivot to a charming taco truck for a quick snack and captured some adorable pictures in the process.

For Olivia and Cameron’s elopement, we didn’t have to make major adjustments. Initially, we anticipated capturing classic moody Oregon Coast shots, but by the time we reached the couples’ portraits, it turned out to be quite sunny. I’m definitely not complaining though, as their photos turned out incredible. Check out a glimpse of their day here!

During Ari and Tanner’s elopement, the road to the lighthouse was closed, altering our plans for the ceremony due to the walking abilities of the grandparents. However, we smoothly pivoted to another spot for the ceremony and later captured portraits at the lighthouse to ensure we didn’t miss out on the location. And let me tell you, those photos did not disappoint.
