Government Cove Elopement Guide | Columbia River Gorge

If you’re considering an adventure or nature elopement, I’ve had the pleasure of organizing several ceremonies at Government Cove in the Columbia River Gorge—a location I genuinely appreciate. To simplify things, I’ve compiled a brief elopement guide for this spot. Let’s dive into the advantages and considerations to discuss your plans more thoroughly.

THE UPS AND DOWNS OF YOUR OREGON ELOPEMENT AT GOVERNMENT COVE

Government Cove is stunning throughout the year, with late summer and fall being ideal for vibrant greens and pleasant weather. The top offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the Columbia River, making it truly remarkable. There also isn’t a requirement for permits, which is a plus! Keep in mind that it’s consistently windy, but don’t let that scare you away, as we can use the wind to our advantage.

One standout feature of this location is its versatility, offering various spots with distinct views and backgrounds. Conveniently close to Portland, it’s an accessible option without requiring a strenuous or lengthy hike. Just a heads up, there aren’t any on-site restrooms available. If you’re thinking of adding Government Cove to your elopement, check out Kayla and Jamison’s Oregon elopement for ideas. They combined downtown Portland, a Thai food truck stop, and the Columbia River Gorge. See more of their day here!

WHERE IS THIS OREGON ELOPEMENT LOCATION LOCATED?

Situated just east of Cascade Locks, Oregon, the Government Cove peninsula is conveniently accessible. It’s only a 20-minute drive from Hood River and an hour from Portland. You can easily reach it via the Herman Creek Road turnoff from I-84, and the best part is that there’s free parking at the entrance.

One added perk of this location is its proximity to Wahclella Falls and Latourell Falls. They are both just a stone’s throw away. This means you can enjoy double the vibes and backdrops to enhance your elopement experience.
