Las Vegas Groom session in the desert at sunset

I had a vision for these moody desert groom portraits. I wanted to push the boundaries just a little bit on the traditional idea of a groom. Make it more feminine, focus on the details of the outfit, the hair, the lips. What better place to test the boundaries than the Las Vegas desert?

The sunset was beautiful and tender. The colors were pronounced but pale and cast a gorgeous cotton candy glow on everything. Usually, I miss seeing the clouds in Las Vegas but when it’s sunset and the sky is clear of everything but the colors, it feels a little bit like magic.

The wedding industry doesn’t focus on the grooms nearly as much as the brides. There is an uncomfortable disparity between the two.

I want to be a part of that change.

Grooms are just as important as the pretty flowers and lace dresses. And if you can really capture their emotions? MONEY SHOT, Y’ALL.

For this session, I tested out my new 35mm lens and Fell. In. Love. The lens captures more of the scenery and can help set the mood for your model by adding some “white space.”

One of my favorite parts of the groom session is that you can see the sun go down in the story of the photographs. Believe it or not, this location is just a massive pile of dirt and sand behind my house. It looks trashy and unkempt but man is it lovely in photos. Finding those hidden locations like this is part of what makes being a photographer so much fun.
